The Whites

White Shepherds are said to be uncommon, but there are many different countries now that have breeders.
They came from a recessive gene that was found in 1879 in Germany. The first one in the United States was born in 1917. When the founder of the breed died in 1936 , the Nazis started to blame all problems of the tans to be the whites fault, like blindness, deafness, mental instability, sterility, degeneration, and loss of vigor. Like any rumours, they grew and now even today there are many skeptics.
The White Shepherd is slowly regaining its hold. In 1995 the American White Shepherd Association was formed and the White Shepherd Club of Canada to seek separation of the white dogs as a newly formed breed known as the White Shepherd.
Pictured above is Bailey who is an offspring from our sire , Northernwhites Star, and our dam , Ice Blue Venus. Bailey currently lives in Delta ,B.C.

The above picture is of Maddie ,who lives in Alberta ,from Venus and Star's last litter. I receive many beautiful photos of the puppies from previous litters and am pleased to see how well they are doing. Training is the key issue in getting the pleasure and reliance that you want from your pet. Perseverance during the growing years is sometimes difficult (as it is with children) but hard work and patience will reward you. These dogs demand alot of attention because they are a working breed by nature and the closest to the wolf descent as you want to get. They are great with children, perfect family dogs, the aggression levels in the whites are low, perhaps because of lack of inbreeding and overbreeding at this point.
